| We sailed in the Thames Estuary this time with plenty of wind I helmed with Mr. Pearce as crew. We tried the kite and I did the usual thing of tightening up instead of bearing away with the usual consequence ... well nearly - Mr Pearce somehow kept us up. These Tornado Olympic helmsmen real are good. We then did a bit of two out on the wire, up wind stuff.
At this point Mr. Pearce's patients ran out so he helmed and we reached passed a Dart 18, who was racing, like he was standing still. A really exciting light weight boat with all things a racer wants. My problem with this boat is who are you going to race. I think if they do a twenty footer in the same style it might take off but a fast 16 footer is in too limited a market. Youngsters on Dart 16 will move on to F-18 and all the people on 18 & 20 foot cats will not move down to 16 foot. A beautiful boat which ran well in the 'three piers' and even better in the 3 forts but I will wait for a twenty footer. |
