| We started up wind and crossed the line in the middle of the pack. We did the first leg constantly suffering from the fleets wind shadow. We rounded the first mark onto a reach well back from the front.
We took the next buoy onto the next section a downwind two mile run. We tack down wind using the tide and waves to best effect. The next two legs are reaches and we pick up a couple of places on the water but the wind is light and once back on the down wide run we are passed by two RS600 and a Boss that fell over its spinnaker, We eventually cross the line in the company of the three boats listed. Almost as we went about to go home the wind arrived. Due to the nature of the Estuary we tested the boat in we would now have to beat all the way back. If we got it right we could do it with only one tack. With the crew out on the wire we went for it - it being obvious the official race over we would race back. We decided to go for speed not pointing. We got it right we went about with the monohulls well back. We judged the second tack straight onto the club jetty. We were in the boat park before the Boss arrived and had the Prindle de-rigged before the RS600's arrived back. We decided we really liked the boat! |
