| The one race we in the UK all look forward to is the annual Piers Race.
Because we always want to know which boat is the fastest on the water, which boat has the best PN and who are the best sailors in each class. This race gives us a big insight into all of these. Whoever is first across the line usually has the fastest boat. Whoever wins usually has the boat with best PN. Whoever is first across the line in each class usually is the best helm. |

| Last years event had only 90 entries and was one of the smallest ever.
The weather hovered on rain all day, it was overcast, it was cold, it was windy not boat breakingly windy but close. It was a North East wind giving a beat out of the river and a run down to the finish line. Places full course: The First boat across the line was the Tornado Sport sailed by William Sunnucks. 2nd boat across the line was the Storm. 3rd boat across the line was the new Hobie Fox. First boat across the line on short course was the Inter 17 with kite sailed by Dirk Pool See below for pictures. Results: 2000 Long Course 1st Gavin Colby + Brian Phipps - Hobie Fox 2nd Tim Reid + Trevor Hewitt -Tornado 3rd John de Vries + Dominique Paris - Storm 4th Yves Loday + Elodie le Saffre - Spitfire Short Course 1st Dirk Pool Inter 17 . What did we learn from this race: 1) the Worrell experience is good for your sailing 2) the Tornado in Sport form is still the best on the water 3) the Storm is better on the water than the Fox 4) the Fox is better than the Inter 20 in F-20 4) the new Spitfire is a better boat than the Stealth on the water and in the results when sailed by their designers 5) the Inter 20 is becoming more successful than the Hurricane 5.9 or was it just that the 5.9's were off to Lake Como for their European Open Races. 6) the Inter 17 with a kite is very fast and the best on the water for single hand sailors. And might I add very attractive to look at and sail .the 2001 results: 1st John Pierce & Sue Davis on a Stealth R |
