| Very few Hurricane 6.5's ever got built and the chance of sailing one is very remote.
But if you go to Cannes in the South of France you will find one for hire on the beach. We tried it out. We eased away from the beach and tightened up. The boat moved off rapidly but not very spectacular. We arrived at the island opposite the mainland and went about - no drama we had no trapeze but getting the boat onto one hull was relatively difficult. The whole experience seemed a bit of a let down, admittedly the wind was only about ten knots and the sea not that rough. Obviously a hire boat would not be highly tuned but looking up at main it looked to have a good set, the down haul and out haul were in the right positions. I tighten up to go as close to the wind as possible and still the boat seemed very manageable. Down wind we few across the seas and gybed again - we few across the waves. On to a reach, one hull out, both out on the straps ..... if only we had a trapeze ..... |

| earlier we had passed some poorly sailed Hobie 16's but now a Hobie 20 was out and at the helm was one of the boys who hire out the beachcats .
The Hobie was pushing the waves and going well but we glided across the waves and we simply zip by him. We then realised how superb a design the Hurricane is! - It rode the water so well that it seemed slow. After all the Hobie 20 is a Miracle cat with an aluminium mast. If your are down that way we recommend you try the Hurricane 6.5 - it will please you we are sure. |
