Hobie 16
Everyone has sailed a Hobie on holiday but these are generally tired old boats, un-tuned that have been dragged up the beach every day of their working lives.

Get aboard a new boat with good sails, set the rig as you want it and it is a very fast catamaran for 16 feet in length.

When we tested a Hobie 16 we were pleased to see at least 10 others already on the water.

The best thing about the other sailors was there obvious fear of pitch poling and the way they hugged together on the back of the boat.

With both of us out on the wire we set the boat to sail flat and level and consequently wiped them up wind and then back on the tramp wiped them again down wind. What a fun boat we crashed the thing from tack to tack, gybed and generally tried to trip it up without luck. We eventually moved back and let her roll in. Getting her up took seconds and getting aboard is so easy with such low hulls.

A fun boat, fast and easy to enjoy.

This picture shows the jib with its battens. When left too long you have to manhandle the jib passed the mast.... fun eh?
